Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

Thank you for visiting our website.

Emory Department of Dermatology is committed to serving all of Atlanta’s communities with a compassionate, diverse workforce of trainees and clinicians to best diagnoses and treat skin disorders, including those skin problems that disproportionately affect minority populations. Our departmental committee on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion meets regularly to further these missions; we are motivated by the diverse patient populations we serve at The Emory Clinics and Emory Hospital, the Veterans Administration Hospital, Grady Health System and Children’s Hospital of Atlanta.

We currently have multiple ongoing research projects in the department that investigate health disparities. These projects examine disparities in racial and sexual minority groups and involve skin conditions such as hidradenitis suppurativa, acne and skin cancer.  Our goal is to advance medical knowledge and therapeutic options, providing the highest quality clinical care.

Mentorship and residency training are valued in our department. We seek trainees with unique backgrounds, perspectives, and interests. Our residency application review process is designed to be holistic. Medical student and residency curricula integrate skin of color dermatology, unconscious biases and cultural humility and competency. In collaboration with Emory University School of Medicine and our Dermatology Interest Group, we have created a visual abstract series on Bias in Medicine: Dermatology.

We are honored to serve Atlanta and would be happy to share more about our active departmental Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee with you.
