Patient’s Information/Instructions
Welcome to the Department of Dermatology Grand Rounds, Emory University!
Grand Rounds is a weekly session that meets on Thursdays at 7:45am at
the Emory Clinic Building A, Suite 1100, 1365 Clifton Road, NE, Atlanta,
GA 30322. We are pleased that you are participating and ask that you arrive
to the clinic by 7:30am. Local
directions to the Emory Clinic, Dermatology can be downloaded. Also,
specific directions can be obtained from MapQuest®
or by calling the main clinic number (404-778-3333).
The sessions are attended by the departmental faculty physicians, resident/fellow
physicians, medical students, and dermatologists from the Atlanta community
to exam and discuss patients with difficult skin conditions.
Typically, there will be 3-4 other Grand Rounds patients scheduled and
up to 40 attendees may be present. Upon arrival to the clinic, you will
be escorted into a private exam room by a nurse and asked to dress in
a gown so that your entire skin may be examined if necessary. Information
regarding your skin condition such as skin biopsies, laboratory investigation,
previous treatment attempts and diagnostic considerations will be sent
to the department in advance by your dermatologist and posted outside
of your exam room for the attendees to review. Each attendee will exam
your skin individually and may ask you specific questions regarding your
skin disease.
At the end the exams, the attendees will discuss your case in private
and make recommendations regarding further investigation, management,
and diagnosis of your skin condition to your private dermatologist. You
will only receive an evaluation and no tests will be performed. The benefit
to you as a patient in the Grand Rounds setting is that your skin condition
will receive the attention and consideration of multiple physicians at
once. Likewise, you will be providing a valuable learning experience for
the attendees that may enhance future patient care!
