Message from the Program Director

Welcome to the Emory Dermatology Residency Program.  Our training program focuses on training physicians who aspire to become local, regional or international leaders in the field of dermatology.  We seek to identify, support, and develop these gifted candidates to serve their patients and the field of dermatology to the best of their ability.  To quote our chair, Dr. Swerlick, "Our trainees are destined to replace us and, if we do our jobs well, they will do an even better job than we can hope to do presently."

At Emory Dermatology, trainees will find an unparalleled combination of diverse clinical training sites, expert clinical faculty, and active clinical, translational, and basic science research.  Unique to Emory, the main clinical facilities share the same campus with the undergraduate college, School of Public Health, School of Nursing, Business School, Law School and are steps away from the headquarters of the Centers for Disease Control allowing for a breadth of potential collaborative ventures.  Another highlight of Emory are opportunities for training in teledermatology.  Teledermatology is an increasingly utilized modality for providing expedient dermatologic care for patients that might otherwise not have timely access to subspecialty care. Emory dermatology residents have significant exposure to teledermatology during residency in both the outpatient and inpatient setting to help prepare them for the changing landscape of medicine after training.

Our over 20 full time faculty members are distinguished clinicians and/or researchers who remain committed to resident education and mentoring.  Our goal is that all residents experience top-notch training while being afforded the necessary individual mentoring and departmental support to develop into leaders within their chosen part of the field of dermatology.
